Diapers in a Hanging Basket… Hear Me Out 🌸

Diapers in a Hanging Basket… Hear Me Out 🌸
If you’re a mom, then you already know one thing about diapers…
Those things can HOLD WATER.
We’ve all had that moment where a toddler accidentally waddles into a pool with a regular diaper on, and suddenly that diaper weighs about 15 pounds. So, this year, I am testing out a theory...
Could a diaper actually help keep my hanging baskets and planters moist longer during the summer heat?
Cone Flower Planter with Plastic Lining.
I have this cone-shaped planter with a plastic liner, that I plant with wave petunias. But every single summer, I run into the same problem. It dries out FAST.
I’m talking:
watering before work,
watering over lunch break if I am home,
watering again after dinner,
and forget going on vacation!
The plastic liner seems to make everything dry out even faster, especially once those summer temperatures hit.
Trying the Diaper Hack
This season I decided to try something different. Before adding my potting soil, I placed a clean diaper in the bottom of the planter.
That’s it.
The idea is simple:
The diaper absorbs excess water and slowly releases moisture back into the soil over time.
Will It Work?
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Honestly… I’m testing it right alongside everyone else this summer. I will post updates as the days get longer an hotter.
